Working with a multitude of partners, the Vancouver Fuel Cell Vehicle Program (VFCVP) is putting fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen refueling systems to work in real-world applications.

Ford Motor Company is providing five state-of-the-art fuel cell vehicles for use in select commercial fleets in the Greater Vancouver area for a three-year period. Ford also is providing technical support and training for technicians in Vancouver to maintain the vehicles while it monitors and evaluates the performance of the FCVs.

Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Canada's mission is to accelerate Canada's world-leading fuel cell and hydrogen industry. Under this mandate, it will coordinate the VFCVP and manage the deployment of the fuel cell vehicles over the life of the program. Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Canada is responsible for selecting users, addressing insurance requirements, providing maintenance facilities, coordinating driver training and data collection on vehicle operations, and addressing and documenting local codes and standard issues.

National Research Council (NRC-IFCI)

The NRC-IFCI is serving as the home-base garage and hydrogen refueling facility. Additionally, NRC is making available its new hydrogen-ready environmental chamber for climate-related experiments. NRC-IFCI researchers are bringing scientific skills and hydrogen and fuel cell technology expertise to project studies. Canadian technology companies will have the opportunity to benefit by utilizing NRC facilities and participating in collaborative research and demonstration projects.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)

NRCan, acting as the lead for the Government of Canada, is coordinating the funding for this program through the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance (CTFCA) and its Hydrogen R&D Program. NRcan is also overseeing activities related to standards and codes. Through the CTFCA, NRCan is working with industry to establish fuelling stations within the Greater Vancouver area. Additionally, NRCan will undertake greenhouse gas studies, assessing the vehicles and the related refueling infrastructure.
